Friends Care Community is a continuing care retirement community offering Independent Living homes, Assisted Living Apartments, Nursing Center, Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit along with Outpatient rehabilitation for all ages. Friends opened in 1980 and continue to meet the needs of seniors who seek security and quality care. The facility has received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Friends Care was recently added to UnitedHealthcare’s in-network roster for short-term inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient therapy, which will expand access for patients.
Friends Care respects the dignity and unique needs of each individual, providing them restorative or supportive care as appropriate. Their talented and experienced team of nurses and other staff members work together to address the needs of each resident. Therapists work with patients in the rehab therapy gym, activities staff works with patients in groups or one-on-one, and the nursing staff cares for 48 residents. Staffing is the largest cost for Friends Care and their greatest asset. Friends Care provides an average of five hours and 31 minutes of nurse staffing per resident per day – higher than the national and state averages.
As an independent, nonprofit facility, Friends Care is always challenged by financial needs. With Medicaid reimbursement being slashed in recent years, Friends Care works hard to avoid cutting staff, and they rely on donations to make up the difference. Executive Director Mike Montgomery says, “The support we get from the community is great, and I value it like you would not believe. And we will need more and continued support if the village really wants us to continue.”
