Types of Funds

We manage a variety of fund types; together, we can create a charitable giving option that best suits your needs. Click one of the bars below to learn more about that type of fund, its benefits, and how it works.

A Field of Interest Fund managed by the Foundation, provides grants to a specific nonprofit or a nonprofit whose, mission focuses in an area of interest. A Field of Interest Fund can be created as either an endowment (permanent fund) or a spend-down fund.

Benefits

The Field of Interest fund may accept donations, is invested with our pooled investment accounts, and grants from this fund are designated as defined by the fund agreement.

The Foundation charges minimum management fees, which in turn support the operations of the Yellow Springs Community Foundation.

How it works

Open the fund with cash or assets (cash equivalents, stock, or bitcoin). The new fund can be opened with any amount and accepts donations over time.

For a Field of Interest Endowment Fund (permanent fund), $25,000 is recommended to begin making grants. Annual distributions from this fund will be used for grants to the specific nonprofit or nonprofits which serve the specific field of interest. In most cases, grant applications are reviewed by committee.

For a Field of Interest Spend-Down Fund, all amounts in the fund are available for grant making annually as noted in the fund agreement. The available balance will be used for grants to the specific nonprofit or nonprofits that serve the specific field of interest. In most cases, grant applications are reviewed by committee.

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a personalized fund managed by the Foundation from which you make recommendations for grants to IRS-qualified organizations you care about throughout the year.
