Class of 1967 50th Reunion
The purpose of this Fund shall be to honor the memory of Chris Sparks by providing funds to support scholarships to be awarded to graduates of Yellow Springs High School. Chris Sparks was a leader of the Class of 1967, 7th Grade class. He was a gifted athlete, intelligent, courageous and charismatic. He was a champion of the underdog and included everyone: boy and girl, black and white, athlete and scholar, popular and outcast. His life ended before his social justice values, nurtured in Yellow Springs, could transform society.
The Founding Contributors established the Award for the purpose of recognizing and rewarding ‘leadership promoting social justice and inclusivity in YSHS and the community”.
- The awardee is a leader in one or more of these venues: athletics, theatre, band, student government, school clubs, or YSO community.
- The awardee shall carry a 3.0 GPA or better at YSHS or Career Center.
- The awardee will submit an essay (500 words or less) explaining how the award could “make Yellow Springs a better place for everyone to live, learn, work, and play”.
The primary focus of this award will be social justice leadership by example: organizing and motivating peers to engage in ‘constructive social action’. Possess an uplifting spirit, compassion, empathy, with verbal and written communication skills.
